How To: Create A Layered Bedding Look

HOW TO CREATE A LAYERED BED

I love the look of a cozy layered bed, but how do you do it? How do you make it feels cohesive and comfortable too? I’m gonna share my tips with you today, not only for what pieces to use but how to choose them too. I have a few “rules” I like to stick to, and I’m going to share those with you first.

First, let’s talk about textiles and textures. Texture is so often forgotten about, but it adds so much interest. When selecting your bedding layers, you’ll first want to select a color story, and then to up the cozy factor x10 you’ll want to select different textures. Here my color story is ivory, & brown. I then selected multiple different textures. Linen, cotton, and chunky knit. Some other textures you can use are Waffle, Muslin, Flannel, etc.

When layering a bed, and thinking about where to spend your money, I always suggest splurging on the layers that touch your body the most. I always tend to spend a little more on sheets, and most definitely my sleeping pillow. My favorite sleeping pillow is this memory foam pillow from Amazon. You can adjust the firmness of the pillow, and it’s the best pillow I have ever used. I usually prefer linen sheets, and a good quality set like this one will only get softer after each wash.

my most-used formula for layering my bed

  1. High-quality sheet set, preferably linen, but use what feels best to you.

  2. Two high-quality sleeping pillows. My favorites are here.

  3. Duvet with insert appropriate for the season. This is my favorite one here.

  4. 3x Euro Shams, favorite Euro Sham insert here.

  5. 2x 24'“x24” Decorative pillows, 1x lumbar

  6. 2 decorative layers for the foot of the bed. I almost always use a Kantha quilt, followed by something with a pretty texture. Muslin, waffle, or chunky knit.

This of course can be customized for your preferences, but this is almost always my formula for creating a cozy layered bed.
