5 Ways to Incorporate Vintage & Found Pieces In Your Home

five Ways to include vintage & Found Pieces in your home

Recently, I am sure you have noticed the resurgence of Vintage & Found pieces in home decor & design. It has always been something near and dear to my heart. Something I probably inherited from my mom. She has always loved antiques, and I have very fond memories of spending hours in antique shops looking for that perfect piece. A treasure hunt of sorts. I love a piece that is worn and has the most beautiful character, something that tells a story. Something you want to know more about.

But why vintage? First of all, it’s sustainable. I love knowing that I am helping our environment by not adding to the landfill. Secondly, I’m probably supporting a small shop or business, something also near and dear to my heart. Third, and finally, the pieces are UNIQUE. While of course, I love Target just like the next, I love having pieces in my home that are original and different.

POTTERY—

Vintage pottery is probably the easiest & simplest piece to add. Also, some of my favorite pieces to source and shop for. A piece of vintage pottery is so versatile too. You can use them virtually anywhere to spruce up a space. A kitchen table or island, coffee table, bookshelf, etc. Vintage pottery can be found in lots of places. I usually source mine from Etsy or small shops. Here are a few of my favorites - Well Worn Interiors, Through the Porthole, and Anything Rustic.

RUGS/TEXTILEs—

Some of my most asked about rugs are my vintage rugs and for good reason. Not only are they extremely beautiful, but vintage rugs are so worth the splurge. They often only become more valuable with age. They last forever with proper care, which may I add is quite easy too. They’re usually made from wool, so naturally stain repellant, hides dirt, and wears very well. All wins in my book! A few of my favorite vintage rug shops are - Violet Vintage Rugs, Lantham Vintage Rugs, and Loomologie.

FURNITURE -

This one is probably the most obvious, I love adding a pop of something vintage in with my more modern pieces. The juxtaposition is so interesting. The vintage bench I have in our dining room just sings next to the more modern table & sideboard. The space looks collected and more interesting because of it. Vintage furniture is also extremely solid and well-made too, they really don’t make furniture like they used to. There’s a reason why the vintage stuff is still around—because of how it’s made. Vintage skinny benches, and bobbin legs stools, are some of my favorite vintage furniture pieces I own. Vintage mirrors are also another great item to be on the lookout for!

RECLAIMED WOOD/BEAMS -

You may not think of this initially, but reclaimed wood is definitely “vintage” wood. It adds so much warmth & character. This reclaimed white oak beam is one of my favorite items in my home, and it’s not hard to see why. Reclaimed wood flooring, ceiling beams, wood-wrapped hood vents, reclaimed wood furniture, etc. These are just a few ways you can incorporate reclaimed wood into your home.

HEIRLOOM/FAMILY PIECES -

This 5th and final suggestion is probably my favorite of all, and such a great way to make your home uniquely you. While I don’t have any huge gorgeous pieces of heirloom furniture that have been passed down to me, I have lots of sentimental pieces that I can’t imagine ever getting rid of. Some include my vintage Turkish dough bowl (reminds me of our time spent in Hungary), my grandma’s vintage apron (that I hang in our forever home’s kitchen), handwritten recipe cards, (plan to frame those someday to display in our kitchen), vintage framed portraits, etc. Heirloom pieces can be anything that is special to you, and that brings a smile to your face.

Vintage & Found pieces can bring so much life to a space, and I hope this has helped you dream of new ways to incorporate them into your home. I’m always searching for that perfect piece that will bring my space to life and 9 times out of 10 it usually ends up being vintage or found!
