Save vs Splurge Kitchen - Building 101

Building a home can be so fun, but let’s be real, we all have budgets. There are some fun and creative ways to save money, but even more fun ways to splurge. I am going to share a few ways we did both in our home.

Let’s talk about where we splurged first.

Our flooring was one of the biggest splurges in our home. We knew we wanted solid white oak hardwood throughout. Nothing beats the warmth, feel and look of natural hardwoods. We especially love the herringbone pattern we did in our primary bedroom.

Another area we splurged was our kitchen faucet. We wanted something grand, and I knew I wanted a beautiful, large pulldown faucet. I looked and looked and couldn’t find anything I loved until I came across Waterstone Faucets. They are made in American, and come in 32 beautiful finishes. We ended up with their Traditional Pulldown Faucet in the color Classic Bronze. It’s the jewelry in our kitchen. We also did the matching pot filler. Not only are they both gorgeous, but function so well too.

Now let’s chat about some ways we saved in our kitchen.

First let’s talk about the backsplash. The brick brings so much charm and character to our kitchen, and it was so affordable. We purchased the bricks from Home Depot, you can find them here. It was finished by our amazing tile installer using a German Schemer technique. He knocked it out of the park.

Final way we saved in the kitchen was our lighting. Our kitchen pendants were one of the best decisions I made when designing our kitchen. Not only are they so unique and beautiful, but huge and budget friendly too at just $300 each. That may seem like a lot, but similar pendants are much more especially for the size. They are no longer available and I so wish I could share the source with you all.

Please let me know if you have any questions, I am always happy to share. As always, thanks for reading and have a great week!
